- Conventions- The widely accepted way of doing things. This can be used for any type of media.
- Masthead- The title/brand of a magazine.
- Image- A photograph or a graphic (drawing or digital).
- Cover line features- List of content in the magazine .
- Anchors- The text which links to the image.
- Bleeding- When the image covers the text and vise versa.
- Angle of gaze- The angle in which the subject is looking at the audience.
- Puff- Like a 'puff' of information, a small piece of text to help boast the statues of magazine. This can be used as cover lines and in the form of a sticker.
- Plugs- Information about the context of the magazine. It (plugs) promotes a magazine.
- Full quote- A quote from an interview inside the magazine.
- Caption- Piece of text connected to an image.
Sometimes magazines may also use a technique called bleeding when the magazine uses the models face to cover their masthead this is usually done when they are confident enough that most people will know their brand
