The Music Videos of both genres that I have seen and will be comparing is a selection from OCR. These Include:

Mainstream

Alternative

The Mainstream Videos Conventions:

• The artist sings - shots of them throughout - main feature
• Uses the images of many people, with different stories
• They are narrative and include elements of performance 
• Urban Setting (Cities)
• There is a diverse representation 
• Hardships 

The Alternative Videos Conventions:

• The videos don't show the artists - they focus mostly on music 
• The video is narrative but made in a conceptual way 
• Suburban setting 
• Not as diverse - Limited 
• Sinister element?

For this topic we need to look at context and context can include:

Intertextuality : -The Shaping of a media text through reference to another media text 

                        - Post modern approach  

                        - Paying homage

   - For a long time in media you create a media text that are not aware of its self - the characters world would be their actual world 

   - When its aware of its self, this is usually a directors joke - post modern like trades - character know there is a world outside there bubble
